Spring Cleaning
Spring is the time of renewal. With an intentional pause, you may notice the quality of light is changing, new growth is emerging, and the air just seems fresher. Spring is also a suitable time to look at our homes and property to consider what projects for a renewal or refresh may be appropriate.
As my wife likes to say in Spring: “It’s time for a deep dive cleaning around here.” Spring is a wonderful time to throw some energy into a spruce up both inside and outside.
Our villa has stunning views of our lagoon, pool, and a golf course. I am sure many of you also have breathtaking views from your homes. When we return after a time away, one of my first projects is cleaning the windows, inside and out. It always amazes me how much more light flows into our space with clean glass.
Sidewalks, driveways, patios, tabby walls, and decks accumulate pollen, algae, dust and an endless coating of wind-blown leaves and moss. A gentle power washing can revitalize those surfaces and create an inviting and pleasing sense of welcome for you, your family, and guests. Watch out, power washing can be addictive. The first time I tried it, I kept looking for more surfaces to brighten up. The end-result made me fall in love with our home again.
Roofs are another area that need special attention here in the low country. We are fortunate to have dense tree coverage throughout PD. However, the pollen, pine needles and live oak leaves that rain down create issues that require attention. The life span of a roof can be extended by blowing accumulated leaves and needles off the roof and a gentle spray wash with a bleach solution keeps algae and mold at bay. It is important to take great care when working on ladders and the roof. Hiring a professional for these bigger jobs can be a safe and effective alternative to the do-it-yourself approach.
Taking time to complete these types of spruce-up and clean-up projects may also provide the opportunity to inspect the overall condition of your home and identify other issues that may need to be addressed. Over the past few years PDPOA has devoted more resources to enhancing the overall physical and visual quality of our community. Please call the PDPOA Admin to discuss property inspections and covenant compliance.
