Meet the Owners: Kathy Maurer!
Kathy bought her Queens Grant villa in 2018 and has lived there full time since 2020. Like many PD residents, she rented her condo for two years before officially moving to the island. She moved from Avon Lake, Ohio (a far west suburb of Cleveland), where she worked for the Cleveland Plain newspaper for 19 years.
In 1978, Kathy’s parents bought a vacation villa in Queens Grant. Her and her family have been visiting the island ever since! Kathy has three sons who all grew up visiting and loving PD as they visited their grandparents regularly. Kathy’s parents retired to Hilton Head Island, and she said she always knew she wanted to retire to HHI one day as well. One of her sons considers HHI his home, another lives in Savannah and the last one remains in Ohio.
After living in PD for a year and a half, Kathy went to work part time at Big Jim’s at the Trent Jones Golf Course. Greenwood has been a great company to work for and the staff, which are now her great fiends, are so much fun, says Kathy. She added that talking with locals and vacationers every day is even more fun. Knowing the island so well, Kathy is able to answer many questions from the visitors.
Palmetto Dunes was the only choice for Kathy. “I had to be within walking distance to the ocean. I ride my bike, run and walk my dog, Bailey, frequently on the beach. I also play Pickleball and love being so close to such an amazing Tennis and Pickleball Center. I enjoy the many other amenities Palmetto Dunes has to offer like the Dunes House, General Store and proximity to the Hilton, Omni and Shelter Cove for lunch and dinner” say Kathy. There is no where else for Kathy but Palmetto Dunes.
