Meet the Owners: Jackie Spooner Wilhoit

Jackie Spooner Wilhoit is this edition’s “Meet Our Neighbor”.  Jackie wears many hats in our PD and Hilton Head Island community.  Her name may sound familiar because of her beautiful sunrise pictures on our Facebook page, Palmetto Dunes Life.

Jackie was raised on the North Shore of Long Island, by her mom, who was an interior designer and antique shop owner.  Her Hilton Head Island life began after college, when she met a businessman at Reilly’s Bar who offered to interview her for his company.  Shortly thereafter, she was offered the job of a buyer for Player’s World and her life on Hilton Head Island began.  Shortly after moving to the island, she met Gene, who would eventually become her husband.  Realizing Jackie was staying on the Island, Jackie’s mom and grandma decided to move to HH and the three bought a house on Mouring Bouy.  Within a few years, both her mother and grandmother passed away.  Jackie and Gene were married in that house, raised two wonderful boys, Max and Austin and build their own businesses.  Gene has owned and operated JAS Construction for the past 40 years while Jackie has been half owner of House of Design, a home design company.  Austin works for his dad’s company and Max is the GM for Kilwin’s ice cream.  Jackie is very proud that her boys were born and raised on HHI and continue to live and work here.

Not only does Jackie take beautiful photos, but she runs Book Club 5 in the PD woman’s group.  It has gained so much popularity that they now meet at Corner Perk, instead of someone’s home!  Jackie is a lover of the arts; she was President of the Island School council for the arts and used to volunteer for the arts league.

When asked about what she loves most about PD, she said “What’s not to love?!”  She added that she loves the beach, the beauty of PD, and the people.
