A Biking Paradise
Hilton Head Island has been a League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community since 2011. The island is the only Gold Rated Community in South Carolina. Achieving this level of excellence is the culmination of thoughtful community development, bicycle friendly infrastructure design and leadership from a variety of government, civic, private, and non-profit organizations.
Part of a paradise experience is safety. Bike Walk Hilton Head Ambassadors is an organization of volunteers working to make the pathways a more memorable and safe experience.

People use the bike paths throughout the island for recreation, exercise, errands, and commuting. And the experience level of cyclists varies significantly. Knowing and using safe biking practices is important. Cyclists interact with motor vehicles and pedestrians. This diversity of skills and transportation uses creates a unique set of safety concerns.
