Picnic Island Habitat Enhancement Project
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the natural environment within Palmetto Dunes, debris clearing work will take place next Tuesday, June 2, at Picnic Island on our lagoon, located adjacent to the 12th hole on the Trent Jones course. This work represents the first step in creating a dedicated bird rookery and natural habitat area designed to support native coastal bird species and improve ecological diversity within the community.
The initial clearing activities will focus on removing select debris and overgrowth to help prepare the area for future habitat improvements while maintaining the natural character of the island. The long-term vision is to create a more suitable nesting and resting environment for coastal birds and other wildlife while also improving the overall appearance and environmental health of the area.
Residents and guests may experience disruptions due to equipment and staff working on the island during the day on Tuesday. We appreciate everyone’s patience as this important environmental enhancement initiative gets underway.
