June Board Meeting Highlights

Chairman’s Report, Wilbur Strickland

  • Beachfront Clubhouse comments are open and we’re going to extend the owner comment period until July 9. Please submit your feedback. All owner comments will be fully considered. Click here to submit comments.
  • E-recreational vehicle owner comments have been fully read through and considered.
  • Sean Moore will be leading the Ad-Hoc Communications Committee and Erin Gaian will be leading the Ad-Hoc Safety & Security Committee. Both will be recruiting members of the community to join their committees. These new committees are a great opportunity to get more engaged. If you are interested in either committee, please reach out to Sean or Erin.
  • There will not be a Board meeting in July. The next meeting will be August 19, and we will have owners attend in-person as well as via Zoom.

E-Recreational Vehicles

  • The Board discussed amendments to the Resort Regulations related to E-Recreational vehicle safety. No motions passed.
  • This topic is still very much ‘live,’ and the Board will continue to work through the best way(s) to address it.

CEO’s Report, Andrew Schumacher

  • Dunes House. We’ve executed a Memorandum of Understanding with Greenwood, which is a non-binding agreement, that will set the framework going forward. We’re extending the Member Comment period to July 9.
  • Short-Term Rental PPGs. We’re encouraging guests to watch our Welcome to Palmetto Dunes video via a-frames throughout the community and rack cards passed out through the Pass Office.
  • Bylaw Amendment. The Association is looking to present a bylaw amendment to the membership at the Annual Meeting this year. The purpose of this amendment is to remedy a Board member who specifically violates the conflict of interest policy. We will have this out for owner comment period in late July.
  • Resident Sentiment Survey. The Chamber of Commerce is conducting this survey on tourism and how it impacts our daily lives. The association sent it out to all owners yesterday. Please take the time to let your voice be heard.
  • Palmetto Dunes Cares kicked off Turtle Trot 5ks and Turtle Talks. The Turtle Talks have sold out every week.
  • Election of Directors will take place before the Annual Meeting this year with the results being announced at the Annual Meeting. The election will be held September 1-30, and owners will be able to vote electronically or by mail.
  • Annual Meeting will be held October 16 at 9am.
  • We are looking to make Board Meeting recordings available after the meetings starting in August.

Principal Planner’s Report, Ben Brown

  • Sea Lane, Weather Shore, Lee Shore and Starboard Tack (SL to Rum Row) – waterline replacement, new drainage infrastructure, grading, paving, pathway and landscaping: Completed on time and within budget
  • Upcoming Projects:
    • Mooring Buoy (Iron Clad to Port Tack) – drainage
    • Port Tack/Down Wind – drainage
    •  7 Lee Shore – bulkhead replacement

Chief of Security’s Report, Jim Griner

  • Short-Term Rentals: Over 1,000 short-term rental owners have registered.

Controller’s Report, Matt Nemes

  • Matt presented the monthly financials.

Treasurer’s/Finance Committee Report, Ric Gorman

  • Ric Gorman presented the Treasurer’s Report

Committee Reports

  • Nominating Committee: Lee Smith reported that the Nominating Committee is almost finished meeting with candidates and will have the three candidates by June 28.
  • Greenwood Communities & Resorts: Brandon Smith presented a brief report on the Resort’s activity.

New Business

  • Sean Moore reported that the Ad-Hoc Communications Committee is looking for volunteers.
  • Erin Gaian reported the the Ad-Hoc Safety and Security Committee is looking for volunteers.

There is no Board meeting in July. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 19.
