Board Nominating Process

The PDPOA is governed by a ten-member board. Nine of the members are property owners and the tenth is a representative of Greenwood Communities and Resorts (PD Resorts). The board does important and exciting work – including strategic planning, making decisions to improve the community, financial oversight, and providing input and direction to our full-time management team – all of which are geared to making Palmetto Dunes the best and most sought-after residential resort community on the east coast.

Our board members have varied backgrounds and talents, but one thing they all share is a passion for Palmetto Dunes. The result is a great collaboration by talented and dedicated people, making a meaningful impact on our community today and for the future.

Directors are elected to serve a three-year term, so with a nine-member Board there are three expiring positions to fill each year. We are focused on attracting a broad range of women and men who are excited about helping our community. We’re looking for owners who rent their property, owners who spend part of their time in PD, and full-time residents. The more our board reflects the makeup of all our property owners, the more effective the board will be at charting the best course for Palmetto Dunes.

The following is a summary of how the board nominating process works:

Nominating Committee
In January/February of each year, the Nominating Committee is created. The Nominating Committee consists of two board members (one of which is the chairperson) and three other non-board property owners from the community.

Nominating Procedures
In March, the Nominating Committee begins seeking individuals with a demonstrated background of leadership and service to join the PDPOA Board of Directors. The Association asks for owners interested in serving on the Board to submit their applications to the Nominating Committee by April 15. The committee reviews the applications, interviews each applicant, and nominates one candidate for each directorship to be filled (typically three per year). All candidates are interviewed in May.

Any candidate not nominated by the Nominating Committee can submit a petition signed by no less than ten (10) members of the Association; provided such petition be delivered to the Secretary not less than ninety (90) days prior to the Annual Meeting of the membership. The names of all candidates nominated shall be distributed, to the Membership with the Notice of Election.

Directors are elected prior to the Annual Meeting in the fall and take office at the following Board meeting. In the event there are more candidates nominated than positions available, there shall be a ballot vote by either mail or electronic means by the membership. The candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to fill the positions.
